Old Resident Summoned

The death of Mr. Thomas William Coates occurred at Finley Hospital at a quarter of eight Saturday morning, after a week's illness. Mr. Coates was born in Swaledale, Yorkshire, England on September 16, 1844 and came to this country when 18 years of age. He resided at Rockdale for 25 years, and had made his home in Center Grove for the same length of time. He was a blacksmith and conducted a shop at Rockdale for many years. He was well known throughout the county, and highly esteemed. Mr. Coates was a man of honest, upright life which inspired the respect of his fellow citizens. His death is mourned by his wife and five children, Mrs. Ernest DuCray, Center Grove; Mrs. William Winders, Center Grove; Thomas and John of Dubuque; Mrs. Lewis Walters {sic Walter}, Center Grove; a brother George of Mosalem township; two brothers in England; and one sister, Mrs. E. Radford, Rockdale. He was a member of the Center Grove Methodist Episcopal church, of Harmony Lodge I.O.O.F. No. 2, and of the Early Settlers Association. The funeral services will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Rockdale church, interment at Rockdale cemetery.
