DEATH OF MRS. WILLIAM COATES

The Estimable Lady Suddenly Summoned While Visiting her Sister at Mineral Point Mrs. Frances A. Coates, widow of the late ex-Alderman William Coates, died yesterday afternoon at 12:40 o'clock at the home of her sister, Mrs. Spensley, at Mineral Point, Wis. whither she had gone about three weeks ago on a visit. Mrs. Coates was attacked by la grippe about a week ago and it is supposed the affection developed into pneumonia. A telegram received yesterday morning announced that Mrs. Coates was at death's door and could not live longer than a few hours. Mr. Frank Coates, of the firm of Duncan & Coates, son of deceased, immediately made preparations to leave for Mineral Point, and with his sisters departed on the 1 o'clock train. A later telegram announced Mrs. Coates' death at the hour mentioned above. The maiden name of the deceased was Frances A. Waller.

She was born at Rockdale and was a daughter of the late Wm. Waller, one of the earliest residents of Dubuque. She was married to William Coates about thirty years ago. Eight children were born to the couple, of whom there are surviving Frank, Retta, Myra, John Edgar, and Alice May, Robert, the eldest son, and was a most estimable young man, died some years ago and was followed within a short time by his father.

Although this is the fifth death in the family within three years, and in their last and crushing bereavement the children and other relatives of deceased have the sympathy of the entire community. It is expected that the remains will arrive from Mineral Point Monday morning, and meanwhile arrangements for the funeral will be completed.
