Funeral of a Well-Known Man
at the Monastery Church Sunday

The funeral of the late P. H. Johnston was held from the home of his sister, Mrs. James Daugherty, of Peosta, at the Monastery at 9 o’clock Sunday morning and was largely attended. Solemn high mass was celebrated by Rev. Father David. Interment was in the Monastery Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Dan McKeown, Edward Chapman, Frank Callahan, M. Lynch, Henry Daugherty and John Breitbach.

Mr. Johnston died at Mercy Hospital Friday night after a lingering illness. He was the brother of Tom Johnston and Mrs. Patrick McCann of this city and Mrs. James Daugherty, of Peosta. Mr. Johnston had been a resident of Springfield, S. D., for the past eight years. He was engaged in business there and leaves a host of friends in that vicinity. Mr. Johnston had been afflicted with cancer of the stomach for the past two years. He had an operation performed at Sioux City and later went to Chicago for treatment, but failed to get any better. Two weeks ago his sister went to Chicago and brought him here and placed him at Mercy Hospital. Mr. Johnston was a devout member of the Catholic Church and received the last sacraments before is death.
