FALLS FROM HAY LOFT SATURDAY
RESULTS IN DEATH SUNDAY

James J. Wickham died Sunday morning at the family residence, 39 Dodge Street, at 12:40 o’clock. Death was due to injuries sustained on Saturday morning when he fell from the hay loft to the floor of the barn owned by Seippel Lumber Company, stepping through a trap door covered with hay. He was unconscious when found and never regained consciousness up until the time of his death.

Mr. Wickham was born in Dubuque on Feb. 19th, 1861, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Wickham, pioneer residents of the city. He received his education at St. Raphael’s Parochial School and when still a young boy took up the lumber business, which he followed during his entire life time.
He started in the employ of Moore Lumber Company, which changed hands from time to time, Robinson, Swenson and finally Seippel Lumber Company and Mr. Wickham had remained with the business through each change. He was employed as city solicitor. On December 31, 1884, he was married to Miss Mary Mulhall at the Cathedral. She together with nine children survive him, Mrs. W. P. McKay, of Davenport, Ia., Alvina, Stella, Irene, Anna and Eleanor, Frank J., James W., and Elmer J., all of this city. He was a member of the Central Lodge, 285 of A. O. U. W., and Ancient Order of Hibernians, and also of the Holy Name Society.

Mr. Wickham was known as a genial and kindly man to hosts of friends and business associates. To his family he was all the word “father” could imply, with his first thought always of those he loved. He was a devout Catholic and a lifelong member of the Cathedral of which church the funeral will be held at 9 o’clock Tuesday morning. Interment will take place in Mount Olivet.
