Coletta E. Schumacher, 93, of Dubuque Nursing and Rehab Center, formerly of 2557 Rosewood, died at 6:30 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2005, at the center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Nativity Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 6:30 p.m.

She was born on Oct. 23, 1911, in Dubuque, daughter of Harry and Luella (Acker) Holz. She was a former graduate of the Academy of the Visitation, class of 1930.

She married George B. Schumacher on June 27, 1933, at Nativity Catholic Church; he preceded her in death on Oct. 23, 1988.

She was a member of Nativity Parish and Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Mrs. Schumacher was an avid bridge player and was instrumental in the founding of the Swing Club Bridge Club. She was a charter member of the Pickwick Club. Coletta taught bridge at night school for a number of years. In 1963, she became the first Bridge Life Master in Dubuque, and she was inducted into the Iowa State Bridge Hall of Fame in 1992.

She would "play golf in the morning and bridge in the afternoon."

She also was a euchre player and an avid Cubs fan. A euchre game followed every family dinner.

Surviving are a daughter, Sandra J. Saul, of Dubuque; two sons, George A. (Stacy) Schumacher, of Glendale, Calif., and Dale R. (Vicki) Schumacher, of Santa Maria, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Richard, Michael (Sheri), Cindy (Dave) Sindt, Nicholas (Allison), Lisa, Eric and Amy Schumacher and Alex Schumacher; seven great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Schumacher, of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Holz.
