Dubuque Daily Herald, November 9, 1893

One of the well-known business men of this city passed away yesterday. Fred Ackerman, of the firm Pier & Ackerman died at 11 o’clock at his residence corner of Elm and Thirteenth Streets.

Mr. Ackerman was born in Millhelm, Baden, Germany, 52 years ago and came to this country in 1869. He had been in the ice business in this city for the past twenty-three years. Besides his wife and son Frederick, his surviving relatives are his brother Jacob and his sisters, Mrs. Frank Frick and Mrs. Fred Ruh of this city. A brother of the deceased lives in Germany and a sister in Huntington, Ind.

Mr. Ackerman was a veteran of the Franco-German war in 1866 and serving under the flag of his fatherland with bravery and credit. He will long be remembered for his kindly disposition, which was truthfully revealed in his general countenance.
