Mrs. Johanna Maloney, one of the pioneers of Dubuque County, and a woman held in high esteem and veneration by numerous acquaintances, died Monday at Bernard. The funeral was held yesterday, burial being at Garryowen.

Mrs. Maloney, whose maiden name was Murphy, was born in the parish of Watergrasshill, County Cork, Ireland, in 1800. She came to America in 1824 and at Syracuse, N. Y., in 1828 was married to Michael Maloney. They came to Dubuque County in 1836 and settled on the farm in which she died. Her husband died in 1858. Her son, John M. and her daughter, Mary, both of whom, by the way are suffering from the grippe, live on the homestead.

Her other children are Mrs. D. A. Mahony of Dubuque, and Richard and Lawrence Maloney of Los Angeles, Cal. Mrs. Maloney was also the aunt of Squire Tim Murphy and of William Murphy of this city and Lawrence Murphy of Springfield.
