Louis Mullen died at his home Tuesday morning at 8 o’clock as the result of injuries sustained in a runaway a week ago while plowing corn.

Deceased was the son of Mrs. Margaret Mullen, of 19 Cardiff Place, this city. He resided in the country on a farm near Buncombe. About a week ago he was out in the field working with a team plowing corn. Everything was going along satisfactory until the horses became frightened at a piece of paper flying in the air. One of them started across the field dragging the other horse with him. An obstruction in the way caused the sulky to be overturned and Mullen was thrown out. He was injured internally in the region of the spine.

At the time it was not thought that the accident was serious, but instead of growing stronger day by day, he grew weaker. Physician did all they could to save the life of the young man, but the spinal cord was injured and at last he gradually lapsed into unconsciousness, from which he never rallied. At 8 o’clock Tuesday morning he passed peacefully away surrounded by his friends.

Louis Mullen is survived by his mother Mrs. Margaret Mullen, two brother, James and John, and two sisters, Teresa and Mrs. James O’Rourke of Missouri Valley. He was a young man of sterling character and his loss will be sincerely felt by the entire community.
