~
A mother saw her three-year-old daughter ground beneath an electric car at the corner of Eagle Point Avenue and Jackson Street yesterday afternoon at 5 o’clock. The little one was not killed outright, but lingered until 8 o’clock this morning when she died. The victim was the daughter of Attorney and Mrs. James Kelly of 2150 Jackson Street. About 5 o’clock a number of children including the Kelly child were playing in the street. An ice wagon was standing on the opposite side of the street and one of the children’s mother directed her daughter to request the ice man to bring some ice. The child started across the street to obey the behest, and was followed by the little Kelly child. Mrs. Kelly was standing in her own yard and seeing a car approaching called to her child to come back. The little one stopped and hesitated and then tried to run past the car. Just as she was almost across the car struck and passed over the frail little body. In a moment the car was stopped but it was too late. When surgeons arrived they found the wheels had passed over the left leg at the ankle. At Finely Hospital the injured limb was amputated.

Eyewitness say that no blame can be attached to the motorman. The car was running at a very slow rate of speed and it did not seem to anyone that the child would attempt to cross the track.

The mother of the child did not realize for several moments that her loved one was run over, and then the bloody horror dawned on her as she fell into a swoon and remained in an enervated condition several hours.
