Funeral Held on Monday Afternoon
From Residence in East Dubuque

The funeral of Mrs. Julia Junkermann, who passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. W. Leik, in East Dubuque, was held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Mrs. Leik’s home, where services were conducted by Dean Sage of St. John’s Episcopal Church. The burial was in Linwood Cemetery. The pallbearers were J. C. Luesch, of Ackley, Ia., Alfred Herron, Wm. Michael, A. Rhomberg, H. C. Eschen, J. F. Thormann.Dubuque Telegraph Herald, November 4, 1908

Mrs. Julia Junkermann, pioneer resident of Dubuque, died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. C. W. Leik of East Dubuque on Nov. 6th after two years of sickness.Mrs. Junkermann was born in Prussia, Germany, Nov. 21st, 1841. Her parents came to Iowa when she was a child and settled near Buffalo, Iowa. She was married to the late Otto Junkermann in 1859, who passed away Nov ?, 1883. Mr., Junkermann was for years one of the leading druggist of Dubuque.
Mrs. Junkermann had resided in Dubuque since her marriage except for the past two years when she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Leik of East Dubuque.
Three daughter survive, Mrs. J. H. Kleine, of Lakeside, California, Mrs. Leik of East Dubuque, and Mrs. Martha Herron of Dubuque, and two sons, Frank and Julius of Cedar Rapids. Three children preceded her in death, Emilia, Mrs. Albert Kinney and Mrs. Wm. Kretschmer. She is also survived by two sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Alina Huff of Montana, Mrs. B. Huelshoff of Dubuque, Hugo Hoffbauer of Buffalo, Iowa, Charles and Max of North Dakota.
The funeral will be held at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon from the late residence in East Dubuque to Linwood Cemetery.
The death of Mrs. Junkermann is the cause of sincere sorrow in the community where she was so well known and where she had resided for some many years. A woman of splendid character, of kindly disposition she was held in the highest regard and her death is a loss to the community in which she resided.

The Mines of Spain State Recreation Area was dedicated in 1981. It was acquired with the assistance of the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation. The acquisition helped assure the protection of an important piece of Iowa's historical and natural heritage.
