Demise of James McEvoy, a Pioneer
In Dubuque

JAMES McEVOY – At his home in West Dubuque Friday at 8 a.m. Aug. 3, 1900. James McEvoy, aged 76, Mr. McEvoy was born in County Down, Ireland, and came to Dubuque 54 years. The leaves his wife, Mrs. Francis McEvoy and four sons, James, of Seattle; Tom, of Chicago; and Ed and William, of Dubuque. Mr. McEvoy had one brother, who was ordained a priest by Bishop Loras and was the first priest to take charge of St. Patrick’s church. One year later he took a trip to Ireland, and about a year later he died. Rev. Father McGinnis, and Rev. Father McCabe were also ordained at the same time.The funeral will take place Sunday morning from St. Anthony’s church in West Dubuque to St. Philomena Cemetery. Friends of the family are invited to attend. Gregoire Bros, have charge of arrangements.
