Nicholas Nicks, who died Monday morning at 4 o’clock at the age of 62 years and 9 months, after a sickness of but a few days of congestion of the lungs, was born at Harlington, Luxenburg, in 1834, and came to Dubuque forty-three years ago.
He is survived by his brother, Peter, and sisters, Mrs. Leonard Funk, of Paris, France, and Mrs. Joseph Palen, of Caledonia, Minn., and by his wife and ten children; John, Westfield, Mass., a bricklayer; Joseph, Nicholas and Peter, firemen on the Chicago Great Western; Mrs. Samuel Hall, Misses Florence and Lizzie and Edward, Paul and Bonnie.
Deceased was a member of the Pins, Alphonsus and Luxemburger societies. He was a stonemason by trade and for forty-five years was in the contracting business with his brother, Peter Nicks. He was a man of more than ordinary ability and had a wide circle of friends. His character was above reproach and he passed away honored by all who knew him. Funeral will be held tomorrow at 9 o’clock from the family residence, 2085 Jackson Street, to St. Mary’s Church. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
