Miss Ellen Hennessy, aged 80 year, only surviving relative of the late Archbishop Hennessy, died at the Convent of the Presentation on East Hill at 8 o’clock on Thursday morning, death resulting from a stroke of paralysis sustained while walking in the hallway of the convent a week ago last Thursday. A second stroke followed a week ago Tuesday and from Friday Miss Hennessy had been in an unconscious condition until death relieved her of her suffering.

Miss Hennessy was born in Limerick, Ireland and came to America in 1850, residing with her brother, the late metropolitan of the Dubuque archdiocese when he was a priest in the St. Louis diocese. She came with Archbishop Hennessy to Dubuque in 1866 and resided here continuously from that time on until her death.

During the lifetime of the late Metropolitan, Miss Hennessy resided in her own home across the street from the Cathedral, but after his death made her home at the different religious institutions, the last place of residence being the Presentation Convent on West Hill, where she resided since last September.

The life of the aged lady was lived quietly and unostentatiously. She went about little and was only known to a few friend intimately. Since the passing away of her brother she retired from the world entirely and spent her days quietly in the houses of the religious.

No relatives except two nieces in the east are left to mourn her passing. The arrangements of the funeral have not yet been made.
