Mr. Jacob Gosden 1817-1903

Mr. Jacob Gosden was 85 when he died in the first week of April 1903. Mr. Gosden was born at Walton on the Thames, England, June 22, 1817. While a young man he was in charge of Lord Sutten’s horses and always accompanied the parties on their hunting expeditions. He cared for any horses that was injured or hurt during the race. Jacob served for three years in the English Calvary acting as an assistant to the head veterinarian of the regiment. In May 1852, he emigrated to America, purchasing a farm in Hazel Valley where he resided until 1884. After retiring from the farm, Jacob moved to Farley, living here until the time of his death.

Mr. Gosden, with his wife, Ann Rice Gosden (1822-1898) had four daughters and one son; Elizabeth Rosa; Fannie (was a practicing osteopath-using the family residence as an office); Mrs. Mary A. Rogers; Mrs. Emily Kissinger; and Henry.

Mr. Gosden was active in St. George Church, holding the position of Senior Warden for three years. Burial was at Fairview Cemetery in Farley.

Home is located at the NE corner of 4th Avenue and 3rd Street. Now the home of Clem Ahmann.
