DUST TO DUST
Funeral Yesterday of Wm. F. Rooney
Resolution of Respect by the Printers
and Soldiers
~
At the funeral of Wm. F. Rooney yesterday afternoon the Dubuque Rifle (Co. A. ) acted as the guard of honor, and hailed by the Drum Corp. and accompanied by Typographical Union No. 22 escorted the remains of their late comrade to the Cathedral. On reaching the corner of Second and Bluff Streets the escort was met by Companies B. and K., and A. Calvary, and the Great Western Band, the later playing a dirge while the soldiers saluted the remains of Mr. Rooney. In the Cathedral the service for the dead was read. The casket was again placed in the hearse and the soleum cortege took its line of march to Key West. As the procession moved from the Cathedral the Dubuque Battery, stationed on Kelley's Bluff, fired a salute of ten guns. At the cemetery, when the body had been deposited in the grave, the rifles fired the military salute of three volleys.

The funeral procession was one of the largest ever seen in this city, there being four companies of soldiers and nearly one hundred carriages in line. The military portion was under the command of Capt. C. S. Bently.

Pallbearers, Col. Duane; Quartermaster Case; Lieut Nowlin, of the Calvary; Lieut. Harris, of the Cadette; Lieut Fagan, of the Rifle; Lieut Quade, of the Guard; and Capt. C. S. Bently.
