Elizabeth Carr (born Tranor) was born around 1797 in county Louth, Ireland, She married Thomas Carr (1795-1849) between 1811 and 1812 in county Louth, where they had 8 children.

After her husband Thomas died, Elizabeth immigrated to Elmira, Chemung County, New York around 1850 along with all her adult children and their spouses. In 1856 Elizabeth moved to Dubuque, Iowa, with daughter Ann Carr and son-in-law Thomas Murphy (1815-1879). She died Sep 2 1872, at age 72, in Dubuque, Dubuque, Iowa, and was buried: Sep 1872 - Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Dubuque, Dubuque, Iowa
