Mrs. John E. (Adele Glover) Hostert, 85, of 3270 Cider Ridge, Dubuque, died peacefully Saturday, April 18, 2009, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, in Woodstock, Ga.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 23, at the Cathedral of St. Raphael, with Monsignor Wayne Ressler officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church. The Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1620 Main St., is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on June 11, 1923, in Dubuque, daughter of Jesse L. and Blanche (Walsh) Glover. She graduated from St. Joseph's Academy and Clarke College.

She married John E. Hostert on Jan. 17, 1947, at the Cathedral of St. Raphael, Dubuque. They farmed in Peosta, Iowa, for many years; he preceded her in death on Sept. 11, 1973.

Adele was a member of the Cathedral Parish for 69 of her 85 years. She held continuous membership in the Dubuque County Farm Bureau for 60 years.

She was employed in the office at Roshek's Department Store before her marriage and again at Roshek's (which later became Armstrong's) following her husband's death until her retirement.

Devoted to her only daughter, Adele dearly loved their time together, looking forward to the next visit, daily phone conversations or extended stays in Georgia. She was a Notre Dame fan from childhood and when in Georgia eagerly followed the Falcons and Braves.

Surviving are her daughter, Patricia (Thomas) Kearns, of Woodstock; nieces, Karen (Wayne) Thornton, of Lubbock, Texas, and Ellen (Peter) Shanley, of Glastonbury, Conn.; and a nephew, Michael Rosa, of Chicago.

She also was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Virginia Glover Rosa
