Dubuque Democratic Herald – Oct. 6, 1864

Death of J. P. Nagle – Some friends have sent us a copy of the Vicksburg Herald, in which we find a notice of the death of J. P. Nagle, who formerly kept a saloon in this city. He enlisted in the Dubuque Battery, commanded by M. M. Hayden, and after engaging in several battles, was honorably discharged from military service and engaged in civil pursuits. He died in Vicksburg Sept. 6, of congestion of the brain. His remains received the last solemn rites of the Catholic Church.
