Dubuque Democratic Herald – Aug. 10, 1864

Fatal Accident – A distressing and fatal accident occurred last Monday afternoon a short distance this side of Rockdale. Mr. Patrick Reynolds had been to town with a spirited team of horses for a load of lumber. and when descending the hill leading to Rockdale, his team became unmanageable and ran away, throwing him under the wheels, breaking both arms and fracturing his jaw bone. Medical aid was summoned, as he lay on the roadside, but despite all efforts he lived but two hours. He was then conveyed to his relatives in this city and word sent to Tetes des Morts, where his remains were taken yesterday for interment. He was a highly respectable citizen whose loss will be felt by the community in which he resided. He was taking the lumber to Garry Owen for the priest of that place.
