Eldon E. Schiel, 87, of 1885 St. Ambrose St., died at 3:50 p.m. Friday, June 16, 2006, Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, surrounded by his loving family, following a long illness.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa, where there will be a flag presentation by the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Siegert-Casper Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a wake service at 3:30 p.m.

He was born on April 22, 1919, in Dubuque, son of Ben and Magdalena (Hefel) Schiel. He grew up in the Sacred Heart area and graduated from Dubuque Senior High in 1937.

Eldon served in the Air Force during World War II.

Mr. Schiel was a commercial artist during his working career, employed by Popular Mechanics Magazine, Dick Lewis Studios and later as art director at Advertising Promotions Inc., NPO, all in Chicago.

He returned to his hometown, Dubuque, in 1969, following the death of his first wife, Dorothy (Donovan) Schiel. He worked at Borley Advertising, Nifda, and station KDUB. He then married Edna Siegert Frank on Oct 6, 1979. They spent 26 happy years together.

Surviving are his loving Wife, Edna Schiel, of Dubuque; nine children, Ginger (Phil) Reinhard, of Rockford, Ill., Bob Schiel, of Columbia, S.C., Jane (Jim) LaBee, of Bolingbrook, Ill., Dennis (Sheila) Frank, Dan (Sue) Frank, Diane (Brian) Drozoa and Donna (Leo) McMahon, all of Dubuque, David Frank, of Trinidad, Colo.,and Debra Crumrine, of Sleepy Hollow, Ill.; 22 grandchildren, Bruce, Brian (Molly), David and Philip Reinhard, Julie (Ed) Frey, Tyler, Nicole and Beth LaBee, Andy and Marty Frank, Tricia (Junior) Luesman and Jason Frank, Brian (Kendra) Frank, Lora (Adam) Fuller and Lisa Frank, Travis and Brent Crumrine, Robert, Michael, and Philip McKernan and Danny and Kayla McMahon; nine great-grandchildren; a sister Anna Mae (Joe) Kingsley; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and dear friends, Jerry and Verna Juergens and Bud and Rosie Eldridge.

He also was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Bernice and Dick O'Reilly; and brothers, Leo and Francis Schiel.

In lieu of flowers, an Eldon Schiel Memorial Fund has been established.

The family would like to give a special thanks for theloving care given by Dr. Whalen and the Tri-State Dialysis staff, the staffs of ManorCare and Mercy Medical Center and Lanie of Home Instead.
