Robert B. Mentzer, 93, of Dubuque, passed away Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gabriel Anderson officiating. Military rites will be accorded by Dubuque American Legion Post 6, following the service at the church. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church until time of services. Leonard Funeral Home and Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, is in charge of arrangements.

Robert was born on Feb. 12, 1921, in Rolfe, Iowa, son of Oliver and Amelia (Miller) Mentzer. He attended Loras College in Dubuque and worked at the Telegraph Herald for 44 years. He was a Army veteran, serving from 1944 to 1946.

He married Arlene Koeff on Aug. 30, 1941, at St. Mary's Church, in Dubuque.

He is survived by his wife Arlene of 73 years; children, JoAnn (Fred) Capps, of Scottsdale, Ariz., Barbara (Ron) Kennedy, of Dubuque, Cathy (Pat) Crippes, of Davenport, Mary Rita Price, of Glen Ellyn, Ill., and Linda (Greg) Dodds, of Davenport; 18 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ronald Mentzer and Kenneth Mentzer; his sister, Katherine Ann Reilly; and a granddaughter, Becki Ann Price.

The family request no flowers. Memorial may be given to a charity of your choice.
