The many friends of John Schwagler, Sr., will be pained to learn of his demise, although the old gentlemen had passed the three-score-and-ten-mile-post, up until the last five or six days he never knew a day’s sickness. He caught a severe cold at the above time mentioned which developed into pneumonia, and despite all the medical skill a devoted family could procure, proved his last illness. Mr. Schwagler was born at Gross Hoppoch, Oberamt Waillingen, in the Kingdom of Wurtenburg in January, 1811, leaving him at the time of his death 74 years old. He was married in his native place in 1835 to Fredericka Speich, a native of the same place, by whom he had eight children, four boys and four girls, all of whom are living except three of the girls, Louisa being the only one of the latter now living. The sons are John, Jacob, William and Henry, who have all grown to manhood in our midst, and their sire goes to his last home knowing they are respected in the community where they have so long resided. He will be buried this afternoon in Linwood Cemetery.
