The Dubuque Herald – Jan. 3, 1885
~
Last Wednesday a large party assembled at the residence of Mr. Jacob Botzet to surprise a friend living on Iowa Street, among them was Mr. Jacob Michelson. About nine o’clock he complained of biliousness and evinced a desire to vomit. After a while he said he was feeling worse and would have to go to bed. He was removed to a room upstairs and Dr. Mengis summoned. He received the best of attention but by 11 o’clock Thursday morning he passed away.

The doctor pronounced sugar of lead as the principal caise of death.

Deceased was a young man of about thirty years of age and a native of Holstein Germany. He came here from Clinton about a year ago and has since been employed at the mill of Farley & Loetscher Manufacturing Company. He has no relatives.

The funeral will take place Sunday afternoon, from the Turner Hall, and the employees of Farley & Loetscher Manufacturing Company, and the Dubuque Saengerbund, of which society he was the secretary, will attend in a body.

A young lady whom the deceased was to be married in about three weeks, has been telegraphed for and will arrive in time for the funeral.
