The Dubuque Herald – Jan. 3, 1884

Mr. Patrick O’Connor, and old and respected resident of this city died at the family residence 410 Iowa Street, about 5:30 o’clock yesterday morning. He was born in the city of Belfast, Ireland in 1814, and was therefore, 69 years of age. He emigrated to the United State in 1837, settling at Lancaster, Pa., and in 1845 removed to Dubuque. From that time forward he permantely resided here. During the war Mr. O’Connor kept a grocery store in the Old Globe building, and at that time was considered wealthy. Reverses in business, however, dissipated his accumulation, and during the latter years of his life he earned a living as a foreman of the gangs engaged on street work.

His relatives in this city are his widow and two sons, the latter grown to manhood, and a sister Mrs. Russell. Another sister resides in Chicago, and a brother in Fort Wayne, Ind. The funeral will take place at 9:30 this morning to Key West. May the soul of the departed rest in peace.
