Dubuque Herald, Jan. 9, 1866

ACCIDENT – A BRAKEMAN KILLED. Mr. S. Macy, a brakeman on the D. & S. C. R. R., was killed yesterday morning while engaging switching a train of cars at Ackley. He was struck by a spout from a water-tank and fell on the track and was run over by several cars. The wheels of the car passed over his head and breast and killed him instantly. He had been in the service of the railroad company for about four months and had no relatives in this vicinity. We understand he has a brother, a conductor on the Peninsula division of the Chicago N. W. R. R. His remains will be brought to Dubuque today for burial here.

Mr. Macy was between 25 and 30 years of age and was from New York. This was one of those accidents which naturally occur occasionally on railroads even when the utmost care is exercised.
