Dubuque Herald, Jan. 9, 1866

DIED. – In this city, Sunday morning, January 7, 1866, John McGrath, aged 21 years – Deceased was the son of John McGrath, and old and respected citizen of Julien Avenue, and brother of J. McGrath, pressman of this office. A few years ago the deceased worked in the Herald office as a carrier, and afterwards went to learn the blacksmith trade with Asa Roberts where he worked until several weeks ago, when he was taken by a severe cold which brought on a fever which ended his existence despite medical efforts. He was a young man highly respected and died surrounded by his friends. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon and was largely attended. The remains were deposited in the cemetery at Key West.
