Friends and relatives of Ruth may call from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at Reiff Funeral Home in Farley. Services for Ruth will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Farley, with the Rev. Michael Schueller pre-siding. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Farley.

Ruth was born Dec. 26, 1928, in Littleport, Iowa, a daughter of Leslie and Donna (Marshall) Homewood. She received her education at Edgewood and Littleport. She was united in marriage to Bernard L. Zapf on June 14, 1949, in Littleport. He preceded her in death on March 5, 1990.

She and her husband owned the Yacht Club in Mederville until 1960. In 1966, the Zapf family moved to Farley. Ruth continued with her cooking expertise when she worked at the Farley Bowling Alley for a short period of time, then finished her career as a manager of the Farley Truck Stop.

She loved to travel – wherever the car was going she was ready to go, until her health did not allow her. Her most favorite place was Las Vegas, Nev., where she really enjoyed playing video poker. She enjoyed time with her family and friends, and she also enjoyed reading and listening to audio books.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Parish.

Surviving are her three sons, Andrew (Joyce) Zapf of Cascade, Mark (Sue) Zapf of Farley and David (Colleen) Zapf of Cumming, Ga.; six grandchildren, Jeffery Zapf of Farley, Gerry (Jennifer) Zapf of El Paso, Texas, Jillian (Jim) Falaris of Sandwich, Ill., Ryan Zapf of Marion, Brooke Seifer of Marion and Mallory Zapf of Cumming, Ga.; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Homewood of Osceola; and one sister-in-law, Helen Nading of Riverside, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one sister-in-law, Mardell Homewood.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to be made to the American Heart Foundation.
