WOMAN KILLED ON THE RAILROAD

Wednesday, as the freight train on the Southwester Railroad was under full headway about a mile west of Sands Springs, a woman was seen walking on the track in front of the engine. It was expected of course that she would “clear the tracks” on the approach of the train, but she did not, the hoarse shriek of the whistle was given to serve as an alarm. Still the woman kept her steady pace, and as the danger was seen to be imminent, the brakes were put down – but not quite soon enough to prevent the casastrophe which followed; the engine ran over and killed the woman. Nothing is known of her but that she was deaf and that she resided at Sands Springs. Our informant was a passenger on the D. & S. C. train, who heard this much regarding the accident from a passenger on the Southwestern.
