Dubuque Daily Herald – July 13, 1869

SUDDEN DEATH-the public was startled last Sunday morning by the sudden death of William Clancy, the driver of an express delivery wagon, who was well known to almost every man and woman in Iowa, with his long connection with that business. He was afflicted with that sure disease, consumption, which sooner or later claims its victim, and had been confined to his bed several days last week, but feeling better Saturday morning resumed his labors, and that evening was at the depot when the cars arrived soliciting baggage. After reaching home he was attached again and despite medical efforts expired Sunday morning at 4 o’clock, surrounded by his friends and loving wife.

Mr. Clancy was a native of Tipperary, Ireland, and has resided in the city several years. He was aged about ? and leaves no children. The funeral took place yesterday and the remains were followed to their final resting place in Key West Cemetery by a large by a large group of ? friends. He bore a ? reputation as an honest industrious man, whose death was regretted by all.

His brother, Morris, called to see him Tuesday…. The rest is lost because of blurred type along with other pieces of information.
