TELEGRAPH-HERALD AND TIMES JOURNAL, January 2, 1929

Henry J. Maus, 83, passed away at the residence, 524 Lincoln Avenue, Tuesday evening at 9:30. Although he been ailing for the past three years, he did not become seriously ill until four days ago.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Minnie Maus, a daughter, Mrs. L. Steiner; four sons, William, Henry and Edward Maus, all of Dubuque, George, California; twelve grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; a brother, William Maus; two sisters, Mesdames J. B. Gilmore and Emil Kruse, Dubuque. A son Peter died nine years ago.

Mr. Maus was born in New Jersey in 1846 and came to Dubuque eleven years later. He had been employed at the C. M. & St. Paul shops for the past twenty years. He was the oldest veteran firemen at Engine House No. 1.

He was a loving father and husband and his death will be mourned by a large number of friends. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, Sacred Heart League, the Sacred Heart Church, and died fortified by the rites of the Catholic religion.

If Mr. Maus had lived for two more weeks he and his wife would have celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary. The funeral will be held from the home to Sacred Heart Church, the time to be announced later. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
