Patrick Devney

An old respected and native citizen of Jones county, died last Saturday morning at 10 o’clock when death claimed Patrick Devney, of Washington township, at the age of 78 years. Mr. Devney’s death was due to heart trouble and to many of his friends it was unexpected and a shock.

He was a son of Michael Devney, pioneer settler of Jones county, and his entire life was spent in Jones county and the township where he was born. He never married and is survived by his sister, Mary Ellen. His brother, Martin Devney,diesuddenly while on a visit to Calgary, Alberta, Canada, October 23, 1927.

Mr. Devney was an honest and upright citizen whose death is deeply regretted by all who knew him. He was a loyal Catholic and member of St. Peter’s church.

The funeral services were held Monday morning at St. Peter’s church, Temple Hill, Rev. Gory, of Chicago, officiating.
