GEORGE McLEES.
In the death of George McLees the people of Butterfield Richland township, Jones County, lost an estimable man, neighbor and citizen. He was a man above reproach, just and honorable to his fellows, genial and charitable to all, – in fact possessing all the attributes that belong to a good Christian man.

He was born in Columbiana county Ohio, Oct. 12th 1812, and was the son of Cornelius and Mary McLees, and lived in Ohio until 1855. He was married twice, first to Miss Francis Pinkerton, and after his marriage emigrated to Iowa, settling in Richland township Jones county where he resided up to the time of his death. In the year 1857 his wife died. She was the mother of eight children five of whom died, while three survive her viz: John, Catherine, and Miss Fannie. In 1860 he
was married to Mrs. Mary O'Brien by whom he had four children, three whom are dead, one living, Charles, who resides upon the homestead with his mother.

Mr. McLees had been a patient sufferer for several years, and during the time accepted the painful situation with true Christian fortitude. He died as he had lived a true Christian gentleman.

Compliments of Joseph Cahill
