Death of a Teacher at St. Joseph
~
Thursday morning at 4 o’clock, the spirit of Sister Mary Ildeponse passed from earth to heaven. She was in the thirty-third year of her age, and for fifteen years had been a zealous and successful worker in her chosen mission of teacher among the Sister of Charity. For two years she had suffered from a pulmonary attack, which at last took the decided form of consumption, rendering it necessary that she should relinquish some of the arduous duties of the teacher; still she wearied not in well doing, and continued to the last days of her life to direct and advised in the management of St. Joseph’s Academy, of which she had been the head since its formation, and in the establishment of which she was one of the active spirits. Sister Ildephonse lived to see the institution, which was the pride of her heart firmly established, and having a reputation which shall be a magnificent monument to the memory of the noble sister of whom it was written on high “well done,” and who has heard the blessed salutation, “come up higher.” The kindred, spirits who have labored with her for many years will miss sadly the words of counsel and encouragement which helped sustain her faith through all trials, but theirs is the consoling thought that she had gone to her reward.

The remains were on Thursday afternoon taken to St, Joseph’s some eight miles in the country, accompanied by the sisters and clergy, where they will lie until this morning at 10 o’clock, when the burial will take place side by side with those who have gone before in the way she had faithfully walked.
