The Herald, Thursday, June 27, 1869

OBITUARY – We regret to announce the sudden death of Edward Hehir, one of Dubuque’s valued and respected citizens at the age of 49 years. Deceased had for years resided on Julien Avenue, and was a carpenter by occupation. He was a native of the County Clare, Ireland, and came to America twenty years ago, twelve of which he spent in this city. For some time he has been afflicted with a complaint of the liver, which disease terminated his existence suddenly Friday night, although his death was not unexpected. Thursday he was about the house, but diseased lungs prevented his eating, and for weeks his repose has been obtained in a sitting posture. He leaves a wife and four children, with a large circle of acquaintances, to mourn his loss. He was a good citizen, a kind neighbor, a fond husband, and indulgent father, and death is regretted by all. The mortal remains be conveyed to their last resting place this afternoon, see notice
~
The funeral of Edward Hehir, will be held this afternoon, at 2 o’clock, from the late residence on Julien Avenue. The remains will be taken to the Cathedral for services, and buried at Key West. Friends of the family are invited to attend.
