Jess W. Anderson, 82, 2025 Morningview Road, died at 11:15 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at The Finley Hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Congregational United Church of Christ, with burial in Linwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, and after 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
He was born on April 13, 1915, in Numa, Iowa, son of George and Jessie (Moore) Anderson.
He was a graduate of Numa High School and worked at Deere & Co., starting in Moline, Ill., in 1937. He came to the Dubuque plant in 1946 and retired in 1978 as a perishable tool engineer. He worked at Deere's for a total of 41 years.
He married Phyllis A. Parkinson of Rock Island, Ill., on Oct. 18, 1946.
He was a longtime member of Immanuel Congregational United Church of Christ, where he served on various boards and committees, and also taught Sunday School. He was a charter member of the Dubuque Chapter of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He served in all offices of the Julien Dubuque Yacht Club. He was a member of the BPO Elks Lodge 297, John Deere Salaried Club and the John Deere Retiree Association.
Jesse liked fishing, boating and the Ozarks. His family was the center of his life.
Surviving are his wife, Phyllis, of Dubuque; a daughter, Mavis M. (James F.) Oeth, of rural Bellevue, Iowa; a son, J. Warren (Jane) Anderson, of Hurst, Texas; three grandchildren, James F. Oeth Jr., of Dubuque, Jennifer (Torben) Groth, of Allerod, Denmark, and Jay Warren Anderson, of Bedford, Texas; and three great-grandchildren, Martin, Kristoffer and Camilla Groth, of Allerod, Denmark. Other loved ones surviving include Marilyn Anderson, of Bedford, Texas; three sisters, Violet Lambert, of Dayton, Ohio, Lily Purdy, of Port Byron, Ill., and Hazel Anderson, of Jordan, Utah; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Immanuel Congregational United Church of Christ and The Finley Hospital.
