William R. Allen, 74, of 2821 Ridgeway, died Tuesday, June 29, 1999, at home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Locust Street Funeral Home, 1145 Locust St., where friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.

Mr. Allen worked at the former Dubuque Packing Co. for 31 years, retiring in 1980.

He was born on Dec. 21, 1924, in Rockford, Ill., son of William and Louise (Roggensack) Allen. He married Lorraine Wright on April 6, 1949, in Dubuque.

He was a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 150A.

Surviving are a son, William D. Allen, of Dubuque; five daughters, Susan (Duane) Schreiber, Kathy Ender, Debra Weipert and Julie (Dennis) Thibadeau, all of Dubuque, and Betty (Joseph) Muntz, Guttenberg, Iowa; two brothers, Arthur (Judy) Allen, of Dubuque, Tom (Gloria) Allen, of Preump, Nev.; two sisters, Joyce Miller, of Hazel Green, and Lulabell (Donald) Plumley, of Dubuque; 22 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine, in 1989.

A William Allen Memorial Fund has been established.
