George Courtney Taken By Death
George Courtney, 80, a pioneer of this county, died at the St. Francis home yesterday afternoon at 3 o’clock. He had been ailing for the past three months.
He is survived by his five brothers, Edward, of Belmond, Daniel, of this city, William, of Waterloo, John, of St. Louis, and Robert of Dubuque county also a sister, Mrs. Thomas Nevins, of this city.
Being a Catholic, Mr. Courtney was comforted in his last hours by the rites of that religion.
The requiem mass will be read tomorrow at 6:30 o’clock in the chapel at St. Francis home. Burial in Mt. Olivet cemetery at 10 o’clock will be private. Friends are asked to omit flowers. (Dubuque Times-Journal?, Thurs., Sept. 4, 1924, p. 4)
