Sylvia "I'm Fine" Addyman, 93, of Dubuque, died Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at Heritage Manor.
Visitation will be Saturday from 9 to 10:45 a.m. at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road, where funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Dubuque Post #6.
Sylvia was born May 2, 1921, in Dubuque County, daughter of Gilbert and Margaret (Lutz) Schlung. She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School and received her BSN from the Michael Reese School of Nursing.
She served as a 1st lieutenant in the US Army Nursing Corps during WWII.
Sylvia married Homer W. Addyman on November 10, 1947, at Grandview United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on June 6, 1989.
She was active with the Red Cross; Little Cloud Girl Scout Council where she served as a neighborhood chairman, board of directors, senior troop advisor Camp nurse at Camp Little Cloud and day camps; American Legion; Colts Drum and Bugle Corps where she served as a Board Member and traveled as Corps nurse for six years; and Grand View United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and WSCS member, board member and circle leader.
She was a member of Americlub, Emerald Crown Club, Women Connect, Friendship Force, John Deere Retirees, 62 Plus Club, Red Hat Club and Dupaco.
She is survived by two daughters, Arolyn (Dennis) Adams of Janesville, Wisconsin, and Cathie (Dan) Avenarius of Dubuque; six grandchildren, Benjamin (Tonya) Adams, Donald (Katie) Adams, Charlotte (Michael) Chapman, Anna (Jake) Herbeck, Kate (Mike) McFarlane and Danielle (Eric) Fischer; eight great grandchildren, Logan, Lauren, Ian, Joey, Dylan, Ryan, Jackson and Ellen; nieces, Barb, Suzanne, Diane and Jan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Myron "Jack" Schlung; and three sisters, Golda, Violet & Eunice.
A Sylvia Addyman Memorial Fund has been established.
