Joann E. (Riniker) Abresch, 64, of Sunnycrest Manor, formerly of 2701 White St., died at 6:08 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2001, at Sunnycrest.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

She was born on March 20, 1937, in La Crosse, Wis., daughter of Nicholas and Jennie (Springer) Ludovissy. She was adopted and raised by Frank and Irene Riniker after the death of her mother in 1937.

She married Joseph Blocklinger in 1955, in Dubuque. She later married George Abresch on June 5, 1970, in Dubuque; he died on Dec. 25, 1991.

She was a full-time wife and homemaker. She also cared for other children in her home. Joann liked to play bingo and go to the dog track. She especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren.

Surviving are four daughters, Diana I. (Don) Clarke, of Maricopa, Ariz., Sue A. Goetzinger (Kevin Mills), of Epworth, Iowa, Melissa B. (Hub) Lee, of Glendale, Ariz.; and Jody A. (Dee) Singleterry, of Tempe, Ariz.; a stepdaughter, Judy (Fred) Cady, of Dubuque; two sons, Steven J. (Sandy) Blocklinger and George D. (Sherry) Abresch, both of Dubuque; five stepsons, Leroy (Edna) Abresch, of St. Catherine, Iowa, Larry (Rose) Abresch, David (Kay) Abresch and Daniel (Pat) Abresch, all of Dubuque, and Tom (Ruth) Abresch, of Juneau, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; and a stepsister, Evelyn Knautz, of Galena, Ill.

She also was preceded in death by two sisters and six brothers on the Ludovissy side of the family.

A Joann E. Abresch Memorial Fund has been established.
