SHERRILL, Iowa - Robert E. Nachtrieb, 77, of 17631 Balltown Road, Sherrill, died at 12:30 p.m., Monday, July 1, 2002, at Dubuque Nursing and Rehab.
Chapel services will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., Dubuque. Burial will be in St. Matthew's Lutheran Cemetery following cremation. Friends may call from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
He was born on March 18, 1925, in Cascade, son of Christopher and Neva (Lindsey) Nachtrieb. He married LaVonne L. "Bonnie" Lehmkuhl on May 7, 1950 in Clinton.
Bob served with the Navy during World War II in Hawaii and Midway.
Bob was employed for 35 years at the John Deere Dubuque Works until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of the United Automobile Workers, Local 94.
Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He especially enjoyed being with his family.
Surviving are his wife, LaVonne L. "Bonnie" Nachtrieb; a daughter, Carol A. (Jim) Lewis, of Linden, Wis.; a son, Nicholas J. (Kathy) Nachtrieb, of Anamosa; four grandchildren, Tim and Neva Nachtrieb and Jessie and Joey Lewis; and a sister, Leola Lange, of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Nachtrieb on July 21, 1978; three sisters, Norma Nachtrieb, Marian Rettemaull, and Verla Lange; and two brothers, Wilbur and John Nachtrieb.
A Robert E. Nachtrieb Memorial Fund has been established.
The family wishes to thank the Nurses and Staff of Dubuque Nursing and Rehab for their care and concern for Bob.
