Donald Sevart, 78, of Hopkinton, died Saturday, May 19, 2007, in the Good Neighbor Home, Manchester, following an extended illness. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, St. Luke's Catholic Church, Hopkinton, where friends may register after 10 a.m. Father John Kremer will officiate. Interment: Hopkinton Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, with a Scripture service at 8 p.m.

Survivors include his wife, Judy; two children, Annette (Dale) Sauerbry of Hopkinton, and Bill (Sue) Sevart of Manchester; four grandchildren, Ben and Paul Sauerbry, Chenelle Helle and Brody Sevart; and two brothers, Jerry Sevart of Independence, Mo., and Vince (Hilda) Sevart of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Donald E. Sevart was born March 18, 1929, at St. Paul, Kan. He was the son of John and Mary Ellen David Sevart. He graduated with the class of 1947 from the St. Paul High School.

Don went on to serve in the United States Army during the Korean War. He returned from service and attended a meat-cutting school. Don worked as a meat cutter in Cedar Rapids.

Don Sevart and Judith Slifka were married May 30, 1959, at the Assumption Catholic Church, Cresco, Iowa. The couple moved to Hopkinton in 1966 when they purchased the City Cafe and operated

it for 10 years. Don also worked at Fareway in Manchester until he retired in 1991.

Don was active in the Hopkinton Community, serving on the City Council for 11 years, 1967 through 1978. He also helped establish the Lenox Acres Housing Units and managed them for 27 years.

In his spare time he was an avid reader, wine maker, woodworker and gardener, Boy Scout leader and traveler.

He enjoyed crossword puzzles and solitaire.
