PEOSTA, Iowa - Virginet T. "Virgie" Kass, 76, of 8294 Kalb Ridge St., Peosta, formerly of Bankston, died at 10:16 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, following a sudden illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Baptist Church, Peosta, with the Rev. Richard Kuhn officiating and the Rev. Dennis Cain, the Rev. Linus Rasing and the Rev. Carl Manternach concelebrating. Burial will be in St. Clement's Cemetery, Bankston. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, where there will be a Catholic Daughters of the Americas Rosary at 3:30 p.m. and a wake service at 4 p.m.

Mrs. Kass was formerly employed at the Field of Dreams, rural Dyersville, for 12 years, and later at the Americinn, Peosta.

She was born on March 18, 1928, in Luxemburg, daughter of Peter and Anna (Maiers) Stronck. She married Bernard Kass on Dec. 27, 1950, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Luxemburg.

She received her education at Holy Trinity school in Luxemburg.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish, Peosta, and its Rosary Society. She also was a member of the Farley Catholic Daughters of the Americas Presentation Court 1460.

Virgie enjoyed entertaining both friends and family, and playing cards with them. She also enjoyed bowling. Virgie loved to do quilting, and she had made a quilt for each of her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband, Bernard J. Kass, of Peosta; four daughters, Janet (John) Demmer, Lori (Kenneth) Gansen and Deb (Kevin) Fangmann, all of Farley, and Karen (Ed) Bergfeld, of Epworth; four sons, Bob (Sandy) Kass, of Epworth, David (Jeanie) Kass, of Davenport, Don (Cheryl) Kass, of Farley, and Chuck (Lisa) Kass, of Worthington; 27 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a brother, Clarence Stronck, of Luxemburg; a sister, Mrs. Louise Vaske, of Farley; and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Stronck, of Dyersville, and Margie (Clarence) Lehmann, of Farley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Cory Demmer; three brothers, Gerald and John Stronck and Paul Donald, in infancy; a sister, Viola Schaul; and three brothers-in-law, Joe Vaske, Andy Feldmann and Al Schaul.

In lieu of flowers, a Virginet T. Kass Memorial Fund has been established.
