Zora Alibasic Mujagic, 78, of ManorCare Health Services, formerly of 727 Roberts St., died at 6:53 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna, Iowa, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., Dubuque, where there will be a parish wake service at 7 p.m.

She was born on Sept. 29, 1927, in Licki, Croatia.

Zora was the oldest of four children. She spent her early days with her parents on their farm in the mountains surrounding Licki. At the age of 10, she was captured by enemy soldiers and never saw her parents again.

She married Osman Alibasic after the war; he died in 1952. In 1955, she married Kamal Mujagic, who preceded her in death in June 2005.

She came to the United States with the help of the Sherrill (Iowa) United Methodist Church and lived with Pauline and Ed and Joel Datisman in the Sherrill/ Balltown (Iowa) area.

Zora's tremendous inner strength carried her through many deep trials in her life, and her very gentle and soft-spoken manner made her a woman of many friends.

With great courage and deep faith, Zora, pregnant with her fourth child, came to the United States from a displaced persons camp in Austria. She spoke no English and knew nobody in this country. Proud of her United States citizenship, she treasured her family and friends.

Zora resided with her son, Ozzie, who cared for her.

Surviving are four sons, Osman "Ozzie" and Sondra, Mike and Linda, Vesa and Luke; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a sister, Ana Uremovic, of Licki; and nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.

In lieu of flowers, a Zora Mujagic Memorial Fund has been established.

Online condolences may be left for the family at www. behrfuneralhome.com.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Manzel, Dr. Piekenbrock, Dr. Zuccaro, the third-floor nursing staff and Gina, her Hospice nurse, not only for their medical expertise, but also for their personal, loving care of Zora.
