Willis J. Becker, 79, of 1805 Auburn St., died at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Siegert-Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.

Mr. Becker worked at Myers-Cox Co. for 40 years, retiring in 1986.

He was born on Sept. 15, 1921, in Calmar, Iowa, son of Rudolph J. and Philomena (Meyer) Becker. He married Grace Sauser on June 26, 1948, in Worthington, Iowa; she died in 1992.

He was a member of St. Anthony's Parish for many years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the Army. He served on the board of directors of the Dubuque Area Sheltered Workshop for many years and was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus Council 510, the Sierra Club, the YMCA, the American Legion Post 6 of Dubuque, and Lacoma Golf Course.

Surviving are two daughters, Amy Becker, of Iowa City, and Paula (Gregg) Day, of Solon, Iowa; three sons, Tom Becker, of Riverside, Calif., Joe Becker, of Dubuque, and Jim Becker, of Minneapolis; a brother, John (Shirley) Becker, of Erie, Pa.; four sisters, Joan (Henry) Gonner, of Richmond, Va., Mary Anne Deibel, of Youngstown, Ohio, Kathryn Glover, of Stockbridge, Mich., and Ruth Becker, of Dubuque; and two grandchildren, Nick and Libby Day.

He also was preceded in death by four brothers, Lawrence, Robert, Howard and Charles; and a sister, Virginia.

Memorials may be given to the Willis J. Becker Memorial Fund and to Camp Courageous at P.O. Box 418, Monticello, Iowa 52310-0418.
