DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Joseph A. Becker, 85, of Dyersville, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, after a brief illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with burial in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Monti. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4:30 p.m., and an American Legion Post 137 service at 7 p.m.

He was born on March 27, 1916, in Dyersville, son of Joseph H. and Catherine (Goerdt) Becker. He married Marie C. Tegeler on Feb. 10, 1945, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville. Together they farmed near Ryan, then moved south of Winthrop in 1954, and retired to Dyersville in 1979.

He entered the Army and worked in supply in Africa. He was a member of the American Legion Post 137 in Dyersville.

Surviving are three daughters, Marion Becker and Diane (Vincent) Forzano, both of West Babylon, N.Y., and Linda Becker, of Slater, Mo.; five sons, Robert (Shirley) Becker, of Rancho Cordova, Calif., Edward (Eve) Becker, of Palm Bay, Fla., DeWayne Becker, of Storm Lake, Paul Becker, of Lawton, Okla., and Joseph J. Becker, of Las Lumas, N.M.; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Herbert Becker, and a sister, Loretta Becker, both of Dyersville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie, on Sept. 6, 1966; two daughters, Mary and Ann in infancy; a son, Richard; four brothers: Reynold, Lawrence, Leander and Clarence Becker; and a sister, Alvina Becker.
