Eugene "Doc" Cyril Tigges

EAST DUBUQUE, Ill. -- Eugene "Doc" Cyril Tigges, 81, of East Dubuque, formerly of Peosta, Iowa, passed away at Bell Tower Retirement facility Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon today at the Church of the Nativity, 1225 Alta Vista St., Dubuque, with a memorial service and Mass immediately following at noon. The Rev. Scott Bullock will be officiating.

Eugene "Doc" Cyril Tigges was born Dec. 30, 1931, son of George and Mary (Stecklein) Tigges in Dubuque.

He served with the Navy Reserve for 10 years and worked for John Deere Dubuque Works for more than 30 years before retiring.

Doc loved spending time with his wife of 62 years. He also especially enjoyed family time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Some of his hobbies included hunting, fishing, playing cards and gardening. Doc also was known for his homemade wine.

Eugene is survived by his wife, Catherine Elizabeth Tigges; children, Randa (Jim) Derby, and Perry (Kathy) Tigges, both of Dubuque; grandchildren, Leslie Sanford, Tara (Todd) Preston, Heath (Melissa) Derby, Marc (Carrie) Tigges, and Ashlee Tigges; great-grandchildren, Noah, Paige and Mia Preston, Gillian Sanford and Mila Derby; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Tigges; mother- and father-in-law, Elmer and Anna (Roth) Helbing; brothers, Kenneth, Norbert, Clarence, Frank, George, Cyril, and Richard Tigges; and sisters, Dorothy Clemens and Mary Jane Petersen.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Eugene's name.
