Dr. Joseph J. Locher, 66, 135 Devon Drive, an area dentist, died at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mercy Hospital after a 10 day illness.

Friends may call after noon Thursday at the Hoffmann Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. J. J. Martin, the pastor, will officiate at the Solemn Requiem High Mass. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

He was a member of the Holy Name Society; Third Degree Knights of Columbus; Dubourg Assembly; Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus; The Elks, Dubuque Post No. 6; American Legion. He is a member of National, State, District and the Dubuque County Dental Societies, and is presently the treasurer of the North East Iowa District.

He was born in Monticello, Ia., son of Anthony and Caroline Meyer Locher, and resided in Dubuque the last 38 years where he practiced dentistry. He is a World War I veteran having served in the Air Corps.

He attended grade and high school in Monticello, Ia. and then attended and was graduated from the College of Dentistry at the University of Iowa.

Surviving are his wife, the former Lucille Jungk whom he married in 1925; one daughter Mrs. Melvin (Carolyn) Holubar, Cedar Rapids, Ia.; three sons, Dr. Joseph C. Locher, Dubuque, Richard E. Locher, Lisle, Ill., Robert J. Locher, Dubuque; eight grandchildren: four sisters; Misses Mary and Bertha Locher, Mrs. Minnie Mueller, Mrs. Fannie Jarrett, all of Monticello; six brothers, John J. Locher, Albuquerque, N. M., Dr. Lawrence R. Locher, Farley, Leo L. Locher, Columbus, Neb., Charles Locher, Dubuque, and Dr. Earl E. Locher, Dubuque.

Members of the Knights of Columbus will meet at the Hoffmann Mortuary at 7; 30 p.m. Thursday to recite the rosary. Members of St. Joseph’s parish and its Holy Name Society will meet at the mortuary at 8 p.m. Thursday to recite the rosary.
