Phillip Jungk, the last of the pioneer bakers of this section, died early Monday morning at 11:45 o’clock at his home, 1504 Jackson Street. He had been ill only since Saturday night.

Mr. Jungk founded the Jungk Bakery which is still in business at 2130 Central Avenue, nearly 60 years ago. During that entire period he has been actively identified with the business and progress of Dubuque.

He was born in St. Louis, July 17, 1851, but came to Dubuque with his parents, the late August and Elizabeth Jungk, in 1853, living here ever since.

He was married October 31, 1876, to Amelia Schneider, in St. Patrick’s Church here. His widow survives with four daughters, Mrs. John (Ottilia) Stecher, Mrs. John (Josephine) Davidshofer, both of Dubuque, and Miss Anna and Miss Elizabeth both at home, a son John Carl (Carl), Dubuque, 32 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. Two sisters, Mrs. Emma Obermayer and Mrs. Lillie Wunderlich, both of Dubuque, also survive him.

A brother Leo, preceded him in death two years ago.

The funeral will be held from the family home Wednesday morning to St. Mary’s Church at 10 o’clock. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
