ALEXANDER MCELWAIN, A RESIDENT OF DUBUQUE OVER HALF A CENTURY, IS DEAD

Alexander McElwain, a pioneer resident of this city, passed away at the family residence, 101 West Fourteenth street, Sunday evening at 6:15 o'clock. Death resulted from a complication of disease incident to old age. Mr. McElwain reached the ripe old age of 85 years.

Mr. EcElwain was born in County Down, Ireland, in 1821, coming to Dubuque in 1842, where he had been a continuous resident since. He is survived by a wife and one daughter, the latter living in Minneapolis. The funeral arrangements have not been completed.
