Widow of the Late Hyacinth Girard Passes
Away Yesterday Evening

Mrs. Sophia Chevalier Girard, widow of the late Hyacinth Girard, died at 5 o’clock Thursday afternoon at her residence, 855 White Street. Mrs. Girard was born at Munster, Canton, Bern, Switzerland, July 12, 1839, and came to this country in 1854 with her parents and located in Ft. Wayne, Ind., residing there a short time and came to Iowa in 1857, and was married to Mr. Girard in Jesup, Iowa in 1859. She then came to Dubuque and has resided here most of the time since with the exception of a few years residence in Waterloo, Iowa.

Deceased was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for a number of years; also an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Brotherhood and Locomotive Engineers.

She is survived by two sons, August of Freeport, Ill., and Henry of this city; also three brother and two sisters, David Chevalier of Plankington, South Dakota, Fred of this city, Henry of Waterloo, Iowa, Mrs. Eliza Gobat of this city, and Mrs. Esther Dumont of Manchester, Iowa.
